Online Marketing: What’s Twitter?

Follow CreativeTechs on Twitter and every day I’ll share a quick tip from the growing pile of tip resources I’m always collecting. I’ve been keeping this list in a text file on my computer for years. This month, I decided, why not share it? You’ll get to see what types of things I consider interesting. Occasionally you’ll get a sneak preview about a larger weekly tip that I’m researching.

Since I’ve started twittering (tweeting? twitting?) I’ve needed to explain what, exactly, Twitter is all about. This fun video from The CommonCraft Show does a great job describing the basics of Twitter in their classic fast, handcrafted video format. Read the Full Tip »

Business Tip: Add a branded icon next to blog comments.

gravatar-examples.gifOnce you spend a little time reading and commenting on various blogs, you’ll notice that on certain blogs some people have branded icons next to their comments, while others have a generic anonymous graphic.

These icons are avatars — tiny online logos that represent you on blogs and other online forums. It’s a small detail that plays an important role in your studio’s online social networking.

They are easy to setup. Design a small square graphic in Photoshop; save it as a JPG, GIF, or PNG; and upload it to a free account at gravatar:

Gravatar — globally recognized avatars

The process takes about two minutes. Use a photo, or design a small square version of your studio’s logo. This free service works with all gravatar-enabled sites (including most Wordpress blogs, like ours). Test out your new avatar by leaving a comment here! Read the Full Tip »

Today, I’d like to start out with a video from earlier this year in Dubai. This video features an extended conversation on blogging and social media with three influential leaders in the Photography community: David Nightingale (Chromasia), David Hobby (Strobist), and Seattle’s own Chase Jarvis (Chase Jarvis’ Blog).
