Webinar: Free 10-Week Digital Photography Course!

I’m delighted to announce that instructor John Greengo will be leading a special 10-Week Digital Photography Course in our worldwide classroom starting in the first week of September.
Enroll via Email: Digital Photography Course Enrollment.
The free weekly webinars are free. In order to join us, you’ll need to sign-up for a special weekly email notification we’ve created for this course.
Here is the tentative schedule for this class. We may be adjusting this slightly as we get closer to the start.
Week 1, Sep 2 – Introduction
Week 2, Sep 9 – Digital Cameras
Week 3, Sep 16 – Lenses
Week 4, Sep 23 – Exposure I
Week 5, Sep 30 – Exposure II
Week 6, Oct 7 – Focus
Week 7, Oct 14 – Aesthetics I
Week 8, Oct 21 – Aesthetics II
Week 9, Oct 28 – The Gadget Bag
Week 10, Nov 4 – Full Exposure
And yes, you can pass this offer along to friends, or even post it on your blog. Help spread the word. We need a minimum of 1,000 people enrolled to make this free class viable.
Read on for an extended Q&A, and to ask your own questions in the comments. John is currently developing material for this extended course, so if you have a topic you’d like to see him cover, mention it in the comments below.
Q: What Time Do Classes Start?
A: That depends on where you live. People attend these workshops from all over the world. We start at 11AM mornings in Seattle. Here are the start times for time zones in the United States:
2PM – Eastern (New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Florida)
1PM – Central (Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas)
12PM – Mountain (Denver)
11AM – Pacific (Seattle, Los Angeles)
10AM – Alaska
8AM – Hawaii
For international participants, follow this link to see how 11AM in Seattle translates to time zones around the world: What time is 11AM in Seattle? Here are some example start times for different cities:
7PM – London, Dublin, Algiers, Lagos
8PM – Amsterdam, Paris, Oslo, Prague, Zagreb
9PM – Athens, Jerusalem, Kyiv
10PM – Moscow, Dubai
11PM – Tashkent
Midnight – Islamabad
1AM Thursday – Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta
2AM Thursday – Hong Kong, Beijing, Perth
3AM Thursday – Tokyo, Seoul
4AM Thursday – Melbourne, Sydney
5AM Thursday – Vladivostok
6AM Thursday – Auckland
Q: How Long Are Classes?
A: Each class is roughly 90 minutes long, with an additional 30 minutes for audience questions. The Q&A is typically pretty valuable, so plan to stick around.
Q: How Many People Can Attend Each Webinar?
A: Our Webinar tool, GoToWebinar, has a limit of 1,000 attendees per class. Based on the popularity of our other free training, we expect to reach that limit on most classes.
Q: Can I Download Recorded Copies of Classes?
A: We record a high-resolution copy of each class, and we plan to make recorded copies available for a slight fee.
Q: How Can This Be Free?
A: We are trying to make a big splash, and we love working with a large audience. Help us spread the word. If we continue to attract a full audience, we’ll be able to keep offering these types of free courses for InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and other Adobe products.
Q: Can I Post an Invitation on my Blog?
A: Yes. Please help spread the word. We need as many people as possible enrolled to make this free class format viable for us. You can post a link to the following URL, which we will keep updated as details change:

Thank you. This should be a fun course!

August 10th, 2009 at 5:37 am
Sounds great. I am signing up and will pass on to my photography buddies.
Thank you for this great opportunity.
August 10th, 2009 at 7:01 am
See you in September
August 10th, 2009 at 8:59 am
thanks so much and will be there in september.
August 10th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Exciting news. Any idea of what the cost of download will be? I wouldn’t want to miss any classes. I am so impressed with John’s last course!
August 10th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
I have a point and shoot with some manual options. Is this class mainly for D-SLR users or would those of us with pns cameras also benefit?
August 10th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
What if I work during the day and can’t make the webinar?
August 11th, 2009 at 11:48 am
I took the 4-Week photography course and loved it. Now I want to enroll in the 10-Week course but I get an error saying that I was already enrolled in a Digital Photography course. What can I do? I would love to participate in the 10 -week course because I know it will be more detailed.
August 11th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
I had the same problem as Judith, took the 4 week course which was exceptional and now I want to take the 10 week course also. I am also getting the same error notice saying that I am already enrolled. Those that took the 4 week are just rolled over? Do we still need to re-enroll? What do we do now, I don’t want to miss out!!! Thanks for any information you can pass along.
August 11th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Me too, I want to download recorded copies of the courses, how can I do that? And what is the fee? Thanks!
August 12th, 2009 at 11:44 am
I get the same error message as Leigh and Judith….stating that I’m already enrolled? I wouldn’t want to miss this one, the 4 week was excellent!!!
August 12th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Another one who gets the “already enrolled” message. I did purchase the four week course, and wonder if that has anything to do with it?
August 13th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
I registered for the 4 week photography course and missed two because of work. I would like to know if I can get in on the ten week course?
Thanks
Ralph
August 13th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Make that another with the already enrolled message. I haven’t bought the downloads, so that’s not the problem. Anyone from Creative Techs reading these and can enlighten us?
August 14th, 2009 at 1:50 am
Those enrolled in the 4wk course will get the 10wk emails
“@artsykari You are correct. Everyone signed up for the 4-Week Photography Course are already included in the 10-Week Course emails.”
http://twitter.com/creativetechs/status/3216217302
August 14th, 2009 at 5:56 am
Hi Folks. Here is the deal with for those of you getting a message saying you are “already subscribed to list Free Photography Course.”
Everyone who signed up for the 4-Week Photography Course last month are automatically enrolled in this 10-Week Course. There was so much call for this class, that rather than starting a new enrollment list, we decided to build on the previous one.
Sorry for the confusion. If you signed up for the 4-Week version, you don’t have to do anything. You are already signed up for the full 10-Week course.
August 14th, 2009 at 6:07 am
This is wonderful news! I just didn’t want to be left out – thanks for straightening this out for us!
August 14th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Whew! That’s great, thanks!
August 14th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Our time here is 12 hours opposite yours and it’s impossible for me to catch your sessions realtime. Is it possible to listen in on them for free, like watch them on Youtube or if you can upload recorded sessions?
August 17th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
what day during the week is the class gonna be on?
August 17th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Is a point and shoot camera appropriate for this class, or does a person need an SLR to really benefit?
August 18th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
How does this webinar class work? This is my first time here.
August 18th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Creativetechs will send you an email with a link and explanation closer to the first day of the course…it’s very easy to get hooked up, don’t worry.
August 18th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
I would love to participate however, I’m in a design studio class during this time. Is there a way to download the webinars? I saw someone asked the same question but wasn’t sure if it was resolved. And do you necessarily need a camera for this class? I just want to learn the basics of photography b/c I’m very interested.
August 19th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Hi Guys,
I cannot express how excited I am about this new course. I watched the 4-week course and loved it! John is a great photographer and a wonderful teacher — and that combination made the course absolutely interesting and enjoyable. There was only one thing missing. I need to read as well as see. So, I hope that the coming photography course will also include down loadable PDFs. Given the way John presents material, it should be pretty easy to do and would be a great help for people like me.
Anyway, I can’t wait to get started.
PS: What happened to the PDF promised in the third session of the last photography course?
August 19th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
why is it during the week?
why not on a sunday or something?
most people are at work during those times.
August 19th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
The classes are free to watch in real time, but I chose to purchase the full 4-week course because there was so much information and John is SO good!
With the purchase I could download the webinar each week and also the Q &A sessions. I think it was well worth it!
I doubt that you’ll be able to get free downloads because then people like me won’t bother to purchase, and so there won’t be enough money to pay for all the stuff that’s needed to put on these classes.
Just watch a week or two before buying, or take lots of captures and notes.
August 22nd, 2009 at 1:03 pm
I just signed up, I hope, and am excited for the 9/1 to get here so that I can jump in. Ü
August 26th, 2009 at 10:22 am
I want to know how this is free. I am also interested in signing not only myself up, but my daughter as well, and have approx. 20-25 friends that are also awaiting the answer to these questions. I am guessing you don’t post the answers to all these questions being asked. So, if you’d please let me know what the cost is going to be for the recorded sessions, we’d appreciate it. We won’t be able to make that time every day. Thanks…
August 26th, 2009 at 10:36 am
Lleann Cepek: If you watch the class the day and time it’s scheduled, there is no charge. I couldn’t remember all the information, or take good enough notes in the previous courses I took, so bought them to download. This way I can watch and re-watch anytime I want to.
You don’t have to purchase the classes until after you watch, so you can see if they’re worth the money – that’s what I like!!
August 27th, 2009 at 11:49 am
I purchased the downloads the first time, and my week 4 class as well as q/a is corrupted. I can’t seem to find the link anywhere, can you please email me with the link for the last class so I can download it again. Also I’d like to know if those of us who have already purchased the downloads for the first class are going to pay full price for the downloads again? I’m assuming that the information from the 4 classes we have will be included in this new class?
Thanks so much for all the great classes! Jana
September 1st, 2009 at 9:59 am
Are course offerings, other than 10-week Photoshop which already has it, available for downloading? If so, can CreativeTech consider adding a link on their training page to all of their downloadable training sessions? This would make it more convenient for customers.
Thanks
Gil

I only wish I could do this. It is on Wednesday afternoons – I cannot afford that time away from work.
I am hoping that the recordings (or DVD or whatever is made available later) is affordable so that I don’t miss out too much.
September 2nd, 2009 at 9:56 am
I just registered and got an email saying I would be given login info as the event got nearer. Its in 5 minutes right?
Any help would be appreciated on where to go (address) and what login info to use.
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:00 am
I signed up for the photography class starting today Sep 2, 2009, and got a confirmation e-mail and received no weblink to watch. Did the show go on or did I just miss it.
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:04 am
i have the same problem. i signed up a few days ago, but haven’t received a link to the webinar location. :/
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:06 am
Same problem here, no webinar link…
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
Same here. No webinar ID or password.
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:37 am
Same problem here as well. I’m signed in, but never got a link or ID #.
September 2nd, 2009 at 11:20 am
I would like to purchase the Free 10-Week Digital Photography Course currently being shown on Wensday’s, Sept. 2 – Nov. 4, as I have a schedule conflict with viewing some of free classes causing me to miss some of them at their scheduled time. Please advise.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:17 pm
I missed the first session this evening (19:00 UK time).
How can i catch up before next week?
lee
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Sounds great, but I work during the week.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
I got my webnar address for Sept 9, after the first class was over. I was disappointed that I didn’t get the first class.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I signed-up this morning but still haven’t received anything. Hopefully by next week. Are there any CreativeTech moderators looking at this thread, or has anyone called up to inquire what the deal is with the missing permissions?
September 2nd, 2009 at 7:43 pm
I know I signed up for this way back in August. I didn’t get a single thing about it today. Help, please.
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:17 am
I got a confirmation by email that I had ben accepted for the Photography course but no further details. Have you really had the first class without me? And others also, see comments above!
Please contact me.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:16 am
Apologies! Just checked my Spam folder and there you were – should have thought of that first, of course
How much vital info for newbies like me was covered in the first class?
Any chance of a recap at the beginning of the second?
And is there still room for more new-comers? – I can advertise on my blog if there is…

September 3rd, 2009 at 6:21 am
the link finally made it into my inbox about ten minutes after the session had started yesterday. i’m pretty sure it was a gmail issue, though.
on another note, how do i sign up for retouch thursday classes?
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:45 am
Howdy folks. I’m just catching up here.
Hopefully most those of you who wrote in an hour before the class started either got your notification email shortly thereafter or you emailed me and I was able to get you a link so you could attend.
For those of you who did not get a notification email please check your spam filters. Even if you’ve gotten all our emails in the past something may have changed in our links or your settings so that the filter has blocked the email.
For those of you who got your emails after the class had begun (or worse, after it was over) I’m trying to figure out what happened. I did hear from a number of AOL users who got their notices late so it’s possible there was a service wide slowdown that kept those emails from arriving on time. The same situation may have occurred with other services. I’ll keep troubleshooting.
I do apologize if I’m not addressing all your questions here. I will be checking back frequently to answer other questions when possible but if you have a time sensitive question the fastest way to get an answer is to email me directly at training@creativetechs.com
Thank you for your patience!
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 am
Carol, you won’t be left behind by missing the first class – it wasn’t vital., but you probably could purchase it for a download. I found it most interesting and perfect for me who will be purchasing a new camera shortly, because it showed the various classes of cameras and what each can do.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:49 am

Thank you for answering Carol’s question!
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Hi all. David, I guess I’d better chime in here, finally – I never received a link; just notification of acceptance and when the course was scheduled to start. Can I still view the missed first class somehow?
Thanks :`s

Craig is working on ways that we can put up the previous week’s class for a limited time so that people who have missed them can catch up. It is one of many, many things he is working on so I can’t promise we’ll have that available before next week’s session.
In the future, if you haven’t gotten an email notification 45 minutes before the class begins email us at training@creativetechs.com and I’ll send you a log in link.
September 4th, 2009 at 9:04 am
Hey I signed up for the photography class and never got an email re: the login or location of the class.

We’re posting our recordings of each session at http://creativetechs.com/training for folks who miss (or just can’t attend) the live session. We put the video online as soon as possible (usually the next day) after the live class is recorded and leave it up until the next live session is broadcast.
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:53 am
I have not yet received the info for today’s lesson.

If you’re in need of immediate help send your questions to training@creativetechs.com
September 26th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Hi,
Sorry for duplicating this here. I sent it earlier to help@creativetechs.com but I think it was the wrong place to send it, so I’m posting it here just in case. I bought the 10 week digital photography course through paypal but my confirmation was sent to an old email address (I guess). I have both the unique transaction id #5D956678A03343302 and the invoice id #14r9cy3erlamh7d6tkz230ywgsckc04s48o8kwg from a screen shot. Please tell me where I can download the course.
Thanks for all the courses,
Victoria

Folks -
Please DO NOT POST YOUR PURCHASE INFORMATION here. I understand that it can be frustrating to wait for a response to an email sometimes but we are a small operation. While we do respond to emails over the weekend most of our email response time is during business hours, 9-5 (PST) Monday-Friday. Thank you for your patience.
October 4th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
I am already registered for the 10 week class, but I did not receive a notice for last weeks class and I can’t find it anywhere to view!*!*
October 5th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Judy -
We are posting excerpts for our class sessions at http://creativetechs.com/training. You can see part of last week’s session there now.
October 12th, 2009 at 8:10 am
I apologise for the cross posting, but my leaving this same message on the free-photography web classes Creative Tech page, resulted in no response. After trying several times to install the GoToMeeting client which apparently (although it is not noted anywhere on the Citrix website or in Creative Techs) does not support Vista 64bit, it looks like I lost the opportunity to participate…..bummer, I really wanted to take this class. The error message was that the installer could not find the appropriate directory into which to install the program.
) and my enrollment given to someone else?
I hope that I can get some help before the next week’s class (I emailed Citrix’ support in the beginning of September without response). Does anyone know whether I might be able to obtain a recorded copy of preceding classes? Or whether my preregistration might fail (and due to the limited seating capacity my seat given away as I appear to be a no show
October 12th, 2009 at 8:15 am
Marguerite, we’ve added a LIVE video feed from our classes that does not require GoToWebinar. Simpliy go to this page during a class and you should be able to view the full event online:

I missed the September session and was wondering if this class will be offered again?
October 27th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I know John Greengo is planning to present more classes for CreativeTechs. I don’t think we’ve got them scheduled yet.
November 4th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Hey I signed up today (11/4/09) when I heard about this through an Art Wolfe posting on facebook.
Now everything I’ve found here is out dated
Did I is miss something
Or is all this just old info?
Please advise I was looking forward to this.
Thank you
