Creative Tip: From Design Into Print. Book or Podcast.
Over the last few weeks we’ve been getting a lot of questions about printing, and prepress in our weekly InDesign classes.
For an understanding of the issues involved in reproducing your digital designs on old-fangled ink and paper, I highly recommend a newly updated book by Sandee Cohen:
Book: From Design Into Print
This book reads like a visual quickstart guide for professional printing, and does the best job I’ve seen of boiling down complex printing issues into a friendly, readable guide.
Web: From Design Into Print Blog.
iTunes: From Design Into Print Podcast.
For even more printing wisdom, check out Sandee’s related blog and podcast. The podcast in particular is a hoot.
Source: I’m working on enticing Sandee out to Seattle sometime this fall to lead a course on preparing digital files for professional printing for our worldwide audience. Interested in that? Leave a comment below if you’d like to see us offer an online course covering prepress and printing issues!

Anyone interested in a free online “From Design into Print” course? If I can drum up enough interest, we might be able to entice Sandee to fly out to Seattle for one of our worldwide online classes!

Always interested in a Creative Techs course! Yay Sandee!

If it is as good as CreativeTechs other courses it would be unmissable, especially with someone of Sandee Cohen’s calibre leading it!

I would be all over a “Design to Print” course! I have a few of Sandee’s books and love the straight forward, easy to understand language and visuals. I always go there first – even before an internet search – when I need help!

I would be so appreciative of a “Design to Print” course. I know there is a lot to the topic, and my life would be so much simpler if I understood it better. Please, pleeezzze, pleeeeeeeezzzzzzze?

I would love a “Design to Print” course. Right now the whole subject is confusing to me after getting bits and pieces from various sources.

A Design to Print webinar would be fabulous! I’m fairly new to InDesign (from Quark) and feel like I need to know the in’s & out’s of InDesign to print. Pretty please!!

Yes! Very interested in another terrific CreativeTechs course…if Sandee can explain complex pre-press and make it user-friendly, that would be great.
June 15th, 2009 at 5:25 am
Yes. And, yes! Getting real-life (and real detailed) info on how to get those great designs “out of the computer” and onto paper would be really fantastic. There still are a few of us out here who continue to work in the “old-fangled” world of print!

Absolutely yes! I teach Photoshop but use it primarily for web graphics, and when I get to the chapters about print, I feel much less confident that I really know what I’m talking about. A “From Design to Print” webinar would be wonderful!

Count me in! – I have needed this knowledge for local printing but now I’m also looking at having things printed out of China but I have no way of knowing the best way to prepare and send things.
June 16th, 2009 at 7:41 am
That would be wonderful. Sandee, CreativeTechs, and InDesign… what a combo!
June 16th, 2009 at 8:32 am
Sounds great. Since we had to fire our employee for theft I have been helping out at my husband’s printing business and need more training. BTW, I keep amazing him with the stuff I am learning from the Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator webinars. Pretty cool considering he has been in the business for 33 years.
