I thought that the 3pm PDT time was actually better than the 11am of other classes. Of course, we are working around the schedule of the instructor and his in person classes he teaches at the community college as well. And with the downloads, you can watch and review the material anytime!
Adam, that’s one of the challenges of offering live, worldwide classes. It’s ALWAYS a terrible time for someone, and it’s ALWAYS a perfect time for other people. I’m sure we’ll get a host of comments from people who find this a horrible time, and other who appreciate us finally offering a course when they can come (oops I see that’s already happened while I’m typing).
Anyway, if we keep getting the support we need to thrive, I hope we’ll eventually have classes running around the week and around the clock.
What about keeping the lessons posted for 24 or 48 hours, that way those of us that happen to fall into a bad time slot would be able to view the lesson at a more convenient time?
I like the fact that it is later in the day, I can attend on my own time and not worry about it interfering with work. I enjoyed the fresh start of this weeks basics and CSS. I am really looking forward, to next week and learning the in’s and out’s of Dreamweaver. Thanks so much for offering these free webinars!
I think this will be a great class. A few technical problems, but otherwise good! I’ve been using Dreamweaver CS3 for a while; however, I’ve already picked up a few shortcuts for doing what I’ve been doing the long way!
I LOVE these CreativeTechs classes! I have taken the Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Digital Photography and Flash classes so far and have learned so much.
Erik takes the time to show you how to creative your webpage in Dreamweaver, but he also gets into the nuts and bolts of the behind the scenes source code and how HTML and CSS work. This approach appeals to coders and non-coders alike.
Until this class I have always relied on others to create my websites, but after taking Erik Fadiman’s class I think I will be able to get the look and features I want by doing myself.
I also would highly recommend buying the downloads, both for the ability to review the classes and get the practice files that are provided. It makes it much easier to focus on the class when you know you have the handouts to look at later and are not trying to take lots of notes.
I think Erik is an excellent teacher and he definitely knows his subject. I took the Flash class and he was very thorough in the limited time allowed. I really like that one Flash class that you taught in the Socratic method. it really worked for me.
However, I was totally lost in the first Dreamweaver class since I have NEVER used it before. I realize this was an overview and I am confident/hopeful that the rest of the classes will be pared down and more focused.
All in all your service is excellent and the way you run your business is a class act. So rare these days to find an ethical and customer centric business.
Eric Fadiman. What a teacher. His approach is knowledgeable and patient. His teaching style is calm, steady, focused. He articulates his thoughts so well, it is a pleasure learning from him. I am certain he could teach me to fly a plane!
Erik — this was a great intro class, especially when you talked about current/acceptable sizes for a website window, having an organized filing system, providing url’s for reference material, etc. Starting with a plan is so important. Most classes teach the software but fail to provide instructions outside of the program, ie; the basic info needed to begin and complete a job successfully. In print we always start with specs…
Could you reference CS3 when something differs from CS4? When you accessed the tools and boxes, it was hard to keep up while trying to figure it out in CS3. Also, when you say that preferences can be changed could you show where in the preferences (CS3 again) the changes can be made? (spec. referring to changing the view to side-by-side html/design.) Otherwise the class was a breeze and I look forward to next session.
Thank you Erik & CreativeTechs!
P.S. More than happy to purchase this class for $50.
Hi Erik
you are awesome teacher. I am very much enjoy my PS class and now with DW class I will start learn to create my own website for fun.I am very appreciate your Creative Techs offer these great classes, special for people just be laid-off like me have a fun time to learn new thing and avoid the depression.
And with the download , I be able to watch it again & again when I want to. It is a big bonus for slow learning like myself. Thank so much for your whole talented team.
Having been solely involved in the print arena for more than 30 years, I am now finding that I absolutely must wear another hat. I created my first Web site a month ago using Freeway Pro 5 and while it was more designer friendly, I found it to be frustrating — mostly due the the things that were happening in html behind the interface. Troubleshooting was difficult. Things just happened for what appeared to be no reason. Your DreamWeaver overview clarified a lot and I was actually able to understand more of Freeway because of it. Loved the split screen! I own a very old copy of DreamWeaver (unused — couldn’t understand it) and may just upgrade to a new version after taking your wonderful class. Excellent teacher. The right pace and patient approach.
One comment: I’ve taken the other classes and this one, even with the volume cranked to max, was harder to hear. Maybe a mic adjustment needs to be made?
As for the right or wrong time slot — buy the downloads and watch them whenever you want… genius!
I’d like to thank all of you at Creative Techs for these courses. Now I know about them you can be assured that I’ll take the lot over time. I’ve played with DW for a few months up to now and find that it is a pleasure to use. However there are heaps of things about it and web design that I know nothing about (the second stage of discovery I believe).
I’ve been trying to get smart with it and create pages that have different layouts; for example: one with the container at 800px; the header at 800px, the next layer broken into two columns each at 400px; the next layer at 400px only and a footer at 800px. Either this can’t be done or I’m doing it incorrectly as the text in the 400px div is out of control and the footer div ends up where it shouldn’t – and I have double & triple checked the code to ensure that all divs are complete.
I find the 8.00am start a little rugged but I’m sure I’ll cope, it’s heaps better than some other calls I’ve made to the States where I have to be up at 4.00am.
Once again, thanks for this (and I’ve just purchased the lot).
After being disappointed with the Flash class I almost did not check out the Dreamweaver class (AS2 instead of AS3). I am so glad I did. I will be there next week, no matter what! Thanx!
I signed up for this one COMPLETELY failing to double check its time. Unfortunately, I have most of my downtown meetings ~5 or later, & yesterday was no exception. Needless to say, I was unable to attend.
I have no doubt it was an excellent class though, & I look forward to being able to be a part of the next one!
It was like being there.
You have a very clear teaching style.
Time is fine for me in Dublin,Ireland.
Incidentally the side by side view is not in Cs3 Dreamweaver.
Looking forward to next class.
Great Class thanks!
I loved the first week, and particularly the time suited me great…(11pm in Ireland) so I didn’t have to rush back from anywhere and had time to concentrate without any distractions. Great content, very clearly explained and really looking forward to the rest of the course!
Thank You for having this class, I learned more in the first session than in countless hours of flipping pages! The late afternoon time(CDT) works well for me because most of the fires are out by then. I would like to see your business model expand into the IT world someday.
your class was great eric! my one comment is that your cursor is moving too fast when you go to select menu items and/or pull up dialog boxes. it’s hard to tell where you accessed certain dialog boxes when you’re explaining a procedure. maybe you can slow down just a tad and/or make sure to clearly explain where you’re accessing a given menu item. thanks!
I’m a self-taught Dreamweaver user and I’ve been looking for a class to fill the holes in my knowledge foundation. Yesterday’s class was excellent and I learned a lot. The time of day and class length is perfect for me. I look forward to the next 9 weeks. Thank you!
All the classes I’ve taken so far have been wonderful. I am so excited about the Dreamweaver class – the first one was kind of elementary for me, but probably necessary as a starting point. Some of the things I’m hoping to glean from the Dreamweaver class include: Using Adobe Bridge w/Dreamweaver CS4 (what is it used for???), Spry & Spry Assets, making my own Snippets, if there is any way to check external links (like Front Page does), Version control in Site Definition, File View Columns, Reports and what they can do, Preferences and what they can do, setting up a local Apache or Windows server w/Dreamweaver for dynamic sites, Using a testing server w/php, components, server and regular behaviors, Notes, Cloaking, CSS Design time, and converting CSS to different formats (is it possible to extract inline CSS to an external style sheet for example?). I have been using DW for years, but there are still so many things I don’t understand. Thanks for everything!
Cindy,
I’ll be covering some of those topics, but many of those things are beyond the scope of this class….if all goes well we will have a DW level 2 class soon.
I’m a designer, and I know how to design and build photoshop files to pass off to someone else to build into a site. NOW I’m going to be able to do it myself. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
It’s especially helpful that you address designers and our options! Will I start writing code from scratch? I don’t think so. But now I’ll be more knowledgeable and able.
I have enjoyed you previous classes and Erik is great. Please post the video for just 12-24 hours after the live class! I understand the money thing, but I’m on the East coast, I’m usually driving home or sitting in traffic at 6 p.m. So, by only posting for a few hours, you give those of us who can’t make it at 6 p.m. a chance to see it, but it’s not posted for so long that people won’t buy the downloads. Or is there a way to re-broadcast the class just once but at a few different times to reflect the different time zones?
Thanks for providing this service. I am actually making my 1st download purchase of the whole series of this course because I really need to get better acquainted with Dreamweaver. I have been a long time user of Dreamweaver (currently on CS3 – not sure when I can afford upgrade to CS4 because I have the whole suite), and my big issue now is most likely needing to rebuild from scratch again my existing websites that I have had in use for my small business since 2000 or so. Even though I have been upgrading to newer versions of Dreamweaver over the years, I feel my existing sites are in bad need of an overhaul. So, I will be watching with avid interest and asking questions as needed.
I’m thrilled with the Dreamweaver class after just one session!
My previous Dreamweaver education has been an online class and by courses on cd. Both of those left huge gaps in knowledge. Erik’s method of instruction is so clear. He doesn’t assume that we have knowlege of web design terminology and explains from the ground up – something the other instructors don’t always do.
The time of class is perfect for me. I appreciate Creative Techs! Just starting a business blog and have links to your site so others can benefit from this great service. Thank you!!
Wonderful class! I’ve been working on websites for years and always meant to learn Dreamweaver, but never gotten to it. Now’s the time!
I’m responsible for our company website and have to redesign it soon. We’re currently using ExpressionWeb, but now I’d love to re-do the whole thing in Dreamweaver. All I have to do is convince corporate…:-)
John does an amazing job with the 10-Week Digital Photography class. He is an excellent teacher and mentor. His presentation material is top-notch with rich contents and excellent diagrams. They are visually stimulating and easily understood. All have been designed with enormous thoughts and efforts to help explain key photographic concepts.
I think this body of work is one of the best materials around. It’s the best value for beginner to intermediate photographers who want to get more out of photography.
I tried for 30 minutes–starting 20 minutes before class began–to get into the photoshop class. It kept telling me that my link to the internet was down (something clearly not true!). Finally, 10 minutes into the class it said that the class was full!! What possessed you to overbook the class? It’s digital! It could have been held twice! Now how can I recoup the time and effort taken to show up for class and attempt to attend? My time isn’t free. I expect value for value.
I would like to support the idea of posting full video for 24-48 hours.
I understand the commercial viability aspect of what CT is doing, but believe that posting full video for 1 or 2 day period will not drive down the number of buyers by a significant number.
I can’t believe I understood this class! HTML and dreamweaver felt so daunting before this intro. Thank you Erik you are doing a super job at explaining things without all the schmanziness that usually gets in the way of learning! where can we post questions we might have about this session?
Thanks Erik and CreativeTechs! you guys are awesome!
any chance of being able to see the class again? i signed up, but i’m at work until 5pm and cant see it live. was looking forward to seeing the video, but now it’s gone. any help available?
I agree with Milan K (and others) about posting a full video…I was under the impression (from an email) that there would be , atleast something longer than 20 mins, to allow people to be able to watch if the original time was inconvienient.
I think it would be a very good idea, perhaps for just 24 hours.
I like the 3pm time on Tuesday, I can finally make a class, aftgernoons work better for me too. Thanks for offering one at that time. I am dissapointed I cannot attend the Tues & Thurs morning sessions, due to schedule conflicts. I agree with others, and would love to have an alternative.
Can you list or end out an email showing all the classes that have been produced and what ones are still available to purchase and their prices I still want to get the illustrator course and maybe others.
For me in Amsterdam/Netherlands, the 11 am Seattle time is great. Which makes it 8 pm my time.
The DW class “only” started at midnight my time, so if it takes 2 horus (including Q&A), I’ll end up going to bed quite early (…).
Thanks for the webinars. it’s a joy to attend.
Jane, we’ll have a link up Sunday. The video is posted in the paid downloads section, but we don’t have a purchase link for this single class yet. Sorry (lots of video to process tomorrow!)
This seminar was too late in the day. Any chance of hosting one earlier?
I thought that the 3pm PDT time was actually better than the 11am of other classes. Of course, we are working around the schedule of the instructor and his in person classes he teaches at the community college as well. And with the downloads, you can watch and review the material anytime!

Super program! I was finally able to understand what CSS does, which I couldn’t even get from my “Dummies” book or “Missing Manual.”
Excellent training video! I will definitely be back next week. The explanations of HTML and CSS were very much appreciated. Thanks so much.
I think this will be a great class. A few technical problems, but otherwise good! I’ve been using Dreamweaver CS3 for a while; however, I’ve already picked up a few shortcuts for doing what I’ve been doing the long way!

Jane,
this class was just an overview how Dreamweaver writes html and css for you;
We’ll go deeper into the actual workspace next week.
Eric Fadiman. What a teacher. His approach is knowledgeable and patient. His teaching style is calm, steady, focused. He articulates his thoughts so well, it is a pleasure learning from him. I am certain he could teach me to fly a plane!
Thank you, that’s the best compliment I’ve received so far=)
Forgot to add. I like the 3pm time (6pm my time).

Thank you so much for this webinar. What a valuable class. I am new to Dreamweaver, and learned so much in the first class. Eric is a fine educator…..
Great class! I’m Facebooking all my design friends! Thank you!
When is week 2 (Sep. 29) going to be available for purchase? I missed this class and I wanted to buy it and watch it BEFORE the next class on Oct. 6.
Thanks

I bought DW 10 wk course, but I can not find how/where to download each class. Where is it?
